Patrick O. Killian
received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the Georgia
Institute of Technology and his Juris Doctor from the University of
Florida in 1976. He is admitted to practice in New York and Florida.
Mr. Killian started his career in commercial and construction
litigation with the firm of Baker & Hostetler in Orlando, Florida,
but was hired away in 1979 by one of the firm's clients, Grumman
Corporation. It was at this time that Mr. Killian moved to Stony Brook. During his 17 years at Grumman Corporation, he represented various different businesses within Grumman, but his principal assignment was as group counsel to the Grumman Data Systems and Services Group (later the Northrop Grumman Data Systems and Services Division). His duties at Grumman provided him with a wealth of experience in a wide variety of areas, both in the commercial and government arenas, including systems integration contracts and subcontracts, licensing, protection of intellectual property, real estate, commercial credit, business acquisitions and divestitures, and prosecution of claims.
Since his
departure from Northrop Grumman in 1996, Mr. Killian has been
concentrating on providing advice to high technology companies, both
established companies and start-ups, in a number of disciplines,
including system integrators, internet service providers, a producer of
state of the art epitaxial structures, a producer of sophisticated
medical probes, a biotechnology firm, a computer maintenance company, a
purchase order financier, and a manufacturer of fabric protectants,
among others. He has also represented many individuals in handling
their personal legal issues, such as real estate matters, wills, trusts
and estates, leases, employment contracts. With Mr. Killian's broad
experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating business agreements
of many varied kinds and situations, and his superior communications
with clients to learn the background of the deal and the goals of the
